Experimental synthesis of Fe-bearing olivine at near-solidus temperatures and its decomposition during longtime heating

Several investigations have demonstrated that olivine may be used to simulate geochemical and cosmochemical reactions. Since in extra-terrestrial samples has varying forsterite numbers natural contains inevitable impurities, synthetic with the requisite number been prepared for various experimental research. This study aimed synthesize Fe-bearing via experiments conducted at near-solidus temperatures elucidate formation decomposition mechanisms of obtained olivine. Specifically, we attempted Fo60 (Forsterite = 100 × Mg/(Mg + Fe) 60) using a mixture analytical-grade SiO2, MgO, Fe2O3. To clarify stability olivine, temperature range (1350–1500 °C) heating durations (1.5 h or 15 h) were controlled under constant oxygen fugacity QFM-1 log units.
